ELKHART, Ind. – Sometimes there’s a little added drama when Thor Industries holds its annual car giveaway during Open House Week.
Given that it’s not a cheap prize, Thor insists that the winner not only be a Thor dealer in good standing, but also that the winner be present at the time of the drawing.
Usually, that’s not such a tough task, given that the manufacturer announces what time the drawing will take place. But Wednesday, with temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 80s and humidity levels to match, plenty of people at the exhibit were melting like snowmen in their shoes and many probably headed either to an air-conditioned hotel room or to a unit on the grounds with the A/C blasting.
So, it took three drawings of names of dealers who were MIA before Thor CEO Bob Martin called up Ryan Achtelek of Niemeyer Trailer Sales in Albertville, Minn., who stepped forward. Achtelek had the choice of four vehicles, but chose a Denali pickup as his prize.
Thursday closes out what has been an eventful and profitable Open House event for dealers surrounding the RV/MH Hall of Fame and at Forest River’s Dynamax plant as well as locations scattered throughout Elkhart.
