Gulf Stream Coach and Newmar added to the ongoing recall of units due to the faulty Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps made by Lippert, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Newmar Corp. is recalling 3,712 units from its 2008-14 Bay Star, Dutch Star, and Ventana, 2012-14 Bay Star Sport and Ventana VL, 2008-15 Canyon Star, 2009-10 Dutch Aire and 2008 Kountry Star motorhomes equipped with Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps manufactured by Lippert Components.
The bolt that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.
Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism. The recall is expected to begin March 18, 2016. Gulf Stream’s recall covers 662 units including the company’s 2008-11 Caribbean, Yellowstone and Independence, 2008-09 Crescendo, Sun Voyager, and Toy Hauler, 2008 Sun Sport, 2008-10 Tour Master, 2010 B Touring Cruiser, 2010-11 Conquest, 2009-10 Conquest Super C and Super Nova, 2009 Endura and Gladiator motorhomes.
The affected vehicles are equipped with Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps.
Gulf Stream will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.
