Thor Industries subsidiary Airstream reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Nest Caravans, a start-up company that has designed a compact travel trailer, Airstream officials announced in a news release Friday (April 1).
The move is part of Airstream’s growth strategy to expand its product offering to the molded fiberglass segment of the industry in order to provide incremental growth and attract customers looking for a travel trailer that is automotive, light and modern.
Nest was founded by designer Robert Johans, and was created to appeal to customers that appreciate good design and the great outdoors, according to the release.
“We’ve been imagining a small, well-thought-out fiberglass travel trailer for quite some time and are very confident about its potential,” said Airstream President Bob Wheeler. “Nest is a product that conveys sophistication, simplicity, and upscale modernity, so it made sense for us to partner and help bring this design to market.”
“Our intent has been to introduce real innovation and quality to the lightweight travel trailer market segment,” Johans said. “We are delighted to have Airstream embrace our vision.”
Airstream will announce production location and timing of the launch in the months ahead.
