Indiana's unemployment rate held steady in September as the state's workforce numbers continued to climb.
Indiana's unemployment rate remained at 4.5 percent in September, while the national unemployment rate climbed one-tenth of a percentage point to 5 percent, the Elkhart Truth reports, citing the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Hoosier businesses added 10,100 new jobs in September, bringing the state's total private sector employment to more than 2.65 million, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report.
Indiana now has the lowest unemployment rate in the region, beating out Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois.
The state's labor force has increased by 75,566 — with 75,425 finding employment — since the start of the year and by nearly 200,000 since January 2013.
