After a few months where auction prices for both motorized and towable units hit all-time highs, both segments have returned to what most would consider to be seasonal norms, according to Black Book Market Insights latest report.
"The fact that auction volume is still so high tells us that consigners were probably doing what they could to 'clear the books' before the end of the year, and one factor driving the lower values may have been the poor condition of many of the units, especially on the towable side,” Black Book's Eric Lawrence said.
The average selling price for motorized units was $35,015, which is down $3,191 (8.3 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $11,181 down $1,948 (14.8 percent) from last month. One year ago the average motor home sold for $39,070 and the average towable unit brought $11,189.
Auction volume was mixed: motorized units were essentially unchanged from the previous month, while towables decreased by 8%. Auction volume is considerably higher than it was one year ago.
