2016 Shipment Totals Were Highest in 40 Years

The Great Recession is starting to feel like a distant bad memory thanks to the latest wholesale shipment numbers released by the RV Industry Association.

For December, RVIA reports the best December total on record, with 32,970 units of all kind sent out, representing a 17.6 percent increase over December 2015’s total of 28,025.

For 2016 as a whole, shipments climbed to 430,691 units, a gain of 15.1 percent over 2015 and the best yearly total in more than 40 years.

This year also marked the seventh consecutive annual increase in RV shipments since the end of the Recession.

Overall, travel trailers led the way with 282,250 units shipped in 2016, an increase of 18 percent. Class C’s topped the motorized market with 27,981 units shipped, an increase of 26.8 percent. Class B’s also saw a healthy percentage gain at 24.1 percent, but at a smaller starting sample size.
