A Bristol, Ind., area RV manufacturer is recovering Saturday following a stubborn fire.

The fire at Renegade RV took crews hours to contain.

Multiple fire departments were called out to help fight the flames, including Bristol, five departments responded.

This story by Jessi Schultz originally appeared on WSBT 22.

The factory is massive, but amazingly the fire was contained to just one RV inside .

To fight the blaze, firefighters had to take extra precautions.

Workers at Renegade RV in Bristol watched for hours as firefighters entered and left the factory, trying to extinguish a fire in one of the company's motor coaches.

Thankfully, no one was inside.

The factory's alarm system is what alerted the department.

"We thought it was in the roof at first, but it did not spread. The sprinkling system did its job by keeping it at bay until we could get in and take care of the problem,” said Nick Kantz, Bristol Fire Department Chief.

Fire officials say it's tough to fight the flames when they're in a factory so large in size.

"Visibility was huge. When you're in a factory like that and you don't really know the layout and where they put motor coaches and trailers and things, it's kind of hard,” said Kantz. "If you can't see your hand in front of your face, and it's smoky and hot, and you're not sure what's on the other side of the wall there, it just takes a little bit of time."

Time and water, it took more than 9,000 gallons of water to put it out.

Bristol called Middlebury, Osolo, Porter and Jefferson's fire departments for help.

While one motor coach is a total loss, officials say the rest of the factory has almost no damage.

Investigators are still determining what caused the fire.

WSBT 22 was told there were workers welding inside earlier Saturday.

It's not clear if that's related to the RV catching on fire.

Bristol's Fire Chief says employees at Renegade RV should be able to go back to work on Monday.

The plant employs about 175 people.
